Content
The main purpose of the ARIEL project is to provide TRIUMF with two new sources of radioactive ion beams. One of these two new sources will be using photo-fission reactions driven by the electron beam from our 50 MeV 500 kW linear accelerator (under commissioning). Electron to photon conversion has never been tried with such a high beam power. Possible technological solutions are being studied. We are proposing to use a thin target inside a small spiral-sector FFAG ring. Photons produced through multiple interactions with the foil are sent to an actinide target where photo-fission reactions occur.
